CURRY’s has apologised to a disabled man after delivery men refused to unpack an oven and fridge freezer despite it being part of the service he paid for.

Graham Davis, aged 61, received the delivery from Currys at his new home in Gas Street, Bolton, after paying £350 for the items and a £35 delivery charge.

But he was shocked when the two men allegedly refused to unpack the oven and fridge freezer, even though the order confirmation stated they would.

Mr Davis suffers from peripheral neuropathy, nerve damage to extremities including the hands and feet, so he was unable to unpack the items. He said: “They just left this stuff in the middle of the kitchen. I live on my own and I couldn’t physically unpack it in my condition. My impression was that they just wanted to get away quickly and the fact is that I was stuck here with two massive boxes.

“I rang Currys and after a long time waiting and getting through the automated system, they have refused to come back. The order cost about £350 plus £35 for delivery. My point is that they should be obligated to do what it says on the order confirmation.”

Mr Davis said he had to get a family member to unpack it for him. He added: “I just think it is a poor state of affairs and Currys does not seem to give a damn. I am disabled but how many other disabled people do they deliver to? It could be happening to others and I think it is just wrong.”

The order confirmation said: “We’ll unpack your product and dispose of the packaging for you — we’ll recycle it if we can. Before we leave, we’ll make sure you’re happy with the work we have done.”

After The Bolton News contacted Curry’s, a spokesman said employees had been sent to Mr Davis’s address and the packaging had been removed. The spokesman added: “We have spoken with the customer service team and can confirm the issue has now been resolved. The packaging has been taken away, the customer has received a payment and an apology has been given.”
