THE Crown Hotel has been awarded a civic plaque by the town council to recognise its 231 year commitment to Horwich.
The pub established in 1886 has seen two world wars, the coronation of The Queen and in more recent times, her Jubilees and an Olympic Torch Parade.
Gary and Beverley Parker, managers of the pub, were delighted with the honour for the Chorley New Road hostelry.
The plaque reads: “The Crown Hotel. Originally a Stagecoach Inn with a toll bar on the turnpike road. Rebuilt in 1886 following the opening of the loco works.”
