FARNWORTH are still focused on securing silverware this campaign despite a mixed start to the season.

The Bridgeman Park side won only once as they were dumped out of the Peter Stafford Trophy in the group stages.

But Skipper Simon Booth insists the results so far are not a good representation of their abilities.

Last year's Lancashire Knockout finalists had Saturday’s Premiership curtain raiser against Westhoughton abandoned because of the weather with Farnworth on a total of 96-6 – much to the frustration of everyone involved.

Opener Jon Kerrigan had knocked 24 and Imran Mirza added 20. Westhoughton bowler Oliver Newby was in fine form with the ball taking 4-46 before the game was called off.

“We won one and lost two but we struggled to really get going for the Peter Stafford Trophy,” Booth said.

“It was one of them where the competition doesn’t really mean a right much to many of us. The competition was introduced to bolster the fixtures, that’s all.

“We were up for it on Saturday, that’s for sure. We did okay in tough conditions and we probably could have got to around 130 if we’d have finished the rest of our overs.

“That would have only left about 15 overs for Westhoughton to try and chase it down so we just shook hands and called it a day.”

Farnworth lost star all-rounder Adil Nisar in the summer, as he joined Association side Little Lever as their professional.

But four players came in and Booth is confident his squad is still as strong as ever.

Booth added: “Adil Nisar was a big loss for us now that he has gone pro’ing at Little Lever. He had been with us a long time and it was probably time he went on for a new challenge.

“There was no fall out of anything as such, we shook hands and he went on his way. He played against us earlier in the Peter Stafford Trophy and did very well.

“All in all we have brought four players in and only one has left. I am very happy with the business we have done and am confident going into the season.

“If we don’t win something or come very close then it’ll be a very disappointing season.”
