IT’S just 12 months since we were all shocked by the savage murder of Jo Cox.

The MP for Batley and Spen was doing the work that she loved. The nation’s reaction not only reflected abhorrence of this senseless crime but also the approval of what Jo Cox stood for.

She strongly believed in community and felt that people had more in common than what divided them. Now. the Jo Cox Foundation is promoting a brilliant initiative called The Great Get Together from June 16 to 18.

This involves bringing local people together for a street party, a lunch or dinner. So far, 107,736 national get-togethers are planned including across Bolton.

We often tend to take our neighbours for granted and live in the isolation of busy lives but here’s a wonderful opportunity to tear down social barriers.

There’s a free pack to help everyone get started at https://www.greatgettogether.org/ This initiative not only creates a practical memorial to Jo but also the building blocks of a strong community for everyone.
