POLICE lent a hand to help launch Bolton Pride 2017 and spread the word about ending hate crime.

Bolton Pride launched at the Octagon Theatre last week and began the group's campaign for the year, which will culminate in a parade in September.

Joining the launch was Chief Inspector Tom Martin from GMP's Bolton borough.

Bolton Pride and LGBT Bolton promote a zero tolerance to hate crime and urge anyone who has been a victim or who has witnessed a hate crime to report it.

The event was launched on the same day as International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia.

GMP Chief Constable Ian Hopkins and Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham raised the rainbow flag to marke the occasion.

It is held on May 17 every year as this was the date in 1990 when the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from its list of mental disorders.

The first ever Love Bolton Hate Homophobia Parade in September, with more than 350 people taking part to support the LGBT community.

Bolton Pride aims to fight homophobia and provide safe places for the LGBT community.

This year's Bolton Hate Homophobia Parade will be on Saturday, September 30 and organisers hope it will be even bigger and better than last year.

To report a hate crime call GMP on 101 or 999 in emergencies.
