But centenarian Beatrice May Willett shunned posh nosh in favour of her favourite grub, a Carrs Pasties.

The Halliwell great-grandmother marked her big day sharing a plate of Bolton's finest with a side of peas with her family.

Daughter Joan Bellew, aged 75 from Great Lever, said: "She really enjoyed having everyone together. We have a very big family!

"A lot of them stopped over for the afternoon and all the children were playing in the garden.

"She chose to have Carrs Pasties and peas, she loves them.

"It was a fantastic day and she wanted to tell everyone thank you."

Mrs Willett was born and raised in Halliwell. She was married to husband Ernest for more than 60 years and they had three children.

As well as pie and peas, the May 13th birthday was celebrated with a card from the Queen, balloons and birthday cake at her home in Halliwell.
