CAPTAIN Jimmy Cutt took four wickets and scored 48 runs as Astley and Tyldesley beat Edenfield on Sunday to move to the top of Greater Manchester Cricket League Division Two.

The Gin Pit men won by 66 runs on home soil to make it two wins in two days in the league.

After bowling Droylsden out for 93 on Saturday, with Cutt among the wickets as Nathan McDonnell took 5-26 and Chris Ware (3-16) chipped in, A&T made it to 97-6 in just over 20 overs.

The victory on Saturday moved them up to second and they went one better 24 hours later against Edenfield. Batting first at the Gin Pit Oval, opener Cutt set the pace before falling just two runs shy of his half-century, run out by Greg Smithson for the third wicket to fall at 129-3.

David Harrison steadied the ship with 36 before Graham Capstick finished unbeaten on 29 as the total reached 205-6. Edenfield’s reply began well with opener Adam Barnes hitting 52.

But only three other batsmen reached double figures as the visitors collapsed from 92-2 to 139 all out.

Cutt took 4-16 while Paul Bennett returned figures of 4-28 as A&T celebrated victory with seven overs still remaining.

A&T are now top, three points clear of Thornham having lost just one and won five of their six games to date.

They travel to Whalley Range in Manchester for their next outing on Saturday, looking to remain at the summit.
