A BIG Bolton music event has vowed to continue following the bomb attack on Manchester Arena.

Organisers have confirmed that Boltfest will go ahead as planned this weekend.

Additional security will be in place for the event which is expected to see up to 12,000 people descend on Queens Park for two days of live music.

Visitors have been warned to allow extra time to enter the venue with guidance on what can and cannot be brought to the site available online.

Organiser Jools Taylor said the decision had been taken following advice and guidance, and hoped people would stand with them when the 'Boltfest family' pays respects to the victims of the arena attack.

He said: "The whole Boltfest family is shocked and saddened by the events at the Manchester Arena, grateful one of our own caught up in the event is safe and sending our thoughts, love and prayers to all those affected.

"This Saturday and Sunday at 2pm Boltfest will pay respect to those affected, join us, as we know the Spirit of Manchester will prevail and terrorism will never win.

"Organisers of Boltfest have offered condolences to the families and loved ones affected by the incident."

Parklife 2017, which brings around 75,000 to Heaton Park in Prestwich every year, announced on Monday that it would keep its social media accounts quiet for 48 hour in sympathy for those who have lost their lives or suffered injury in the attack.

It confirmed organisers were working with security and local police to ensure the safety of its customers when the event takes place on June 10 and 11.

A spokesperson added: "We are certain we will not be defeated by such cowardice.

"Our thoughts are with those affected as well as the emergency services working tirelessly to keep us safe in all that we do."

Boltfest 2017 gates open at 11am on Saturday and Sunday with last entry at 7.30pm and events finishing at 10pm.
