THE principal of Bolton Sixth Form was suspended from his post last week it has emerged — and it is understood an interim head is in place.

Alex Fau-Goodwin was issued with the sanction last Friday.

Although the college has declined to comment on why Mr Fau-Goodwin was suspended, it is understand it is do with his management of the college — but does not relate to financial issues.

A Bolton Sixth Form College spokesman said: “We do not comment on contracts of employment.”

Suspension is considered a neutral act and implemented while an investigation is carried out.

Mr Fau-Goodwin took over from Steve Wetton, who retired at the end of the last academic year after taking the college to “good with outstanding” features.

The new principal, who was educated in Bolton, returned to his hometown after 29 years to head the borough’s only specialist sixth form college, which is now one of the highest performing sixth forms in the North West.

Mr Fau-Goodwin pledged to take the college to outstanding and make it the college of choice for Year 11 Pupils.

It is understood an interim principal has been appointed internally, with Stuart Merrills taking up the post.

Mr Fau-Goodwin was a former pupil of SS Osmund RC Primary School and St Cuthbert.

On his Linked-In profile it states he is an Ofsted Inspector.

Previously he was principal at Hartlepool Sixth Form College and Vice Principal of South Cheshire College.

He declined to make a comment when approached by The Bolton News.
