A TEAM of readers netted themselves a once in a lifetime opportunity to play at The Macron.

Entries came in thick and fast for The Bolton News’ Spin and Win competition when readers had to collect tokens from the paper from Monday, May 8 to Saturday, May 13, for a chance to play on the same pitch as Bolton Wanderers.

The 15 lucky winners got the opportunity as the sun shone on Friday, to play a match against The Bolton News’ advertising team.

Lifelong Wanderers fan Christopher Leigh, aged 53, said he was ‘over the moon’ when he found out he had won.

The father-of-two, from Westhoughton said: “I’ve been coming to watch them play all my life with my dad.

“We’re both season ticket holders so when my dad spotted the competition in the paper he asked if I wanted to be entered.

“We collected the tokens but I wasn’t expecting to win.

“When we got a call inviting me along to play I was absolutely over the moon.

“It’s magical and we’ve definitely got the weather.”

Stuart Lee, aged 35, who lives in Radcliffe but is originally from Bolton, said: “My daughter Phoebe is here today watching with my wife, Louise.

“It’s the first time Louise has seen me play and I’m at the Macron. I’ve been on the pitch before but I never thought I’d get the chance to play.”

The season ticket holder added: “I’ve always come to watch the team play with my mum. It’s a proper family day out we do together.”
