VICTORIA Station is due to fully reopen tomorrow morning after closing for a week following the terror attack at Manchester Arena.

The station was  a focal point of the investigation into the bombing and remained within the police cordon for several days.

It also suffered structural damage in the explosion which had to be properly assessed and repaired before the station could oreopen to the public.

But all services are due to resume from Tuesday morning.

A spokesperson for Northern said: “Rail and tram services to and from Manchester Victoria station will resume planned normal operations on Tuesday 30 May.

"The services that will resume are those provided by Northern, TransPennine Express (TPE) and Metrolink."

Travellers and commuters were severely affected by the closure of the station which forced Northern to put an emergency timetable into place.

City leaders in Greater Manchester have welcomed the reopening of the station which, caused severe disruption for commuters and travellers.

Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, said that while those affected would always be the priority the reopening of the station was an important step.

He said: “We continue to grieve with the families of those who died, and support those injured.

"I've been clear that all public bodies must take a families-first approach in the days, months and years ahead to ensure their needs and wishes are fully understood and considered."

He continued: “Victoria station's reopening is an important statement about our city's recovery from this devastating attack.

"It continues to send out the message that we will not be bowed, we will not be divided, and we will stand together.”

During the disruption pictures emerged of passengers packed on to extremely crowded trains running between Bolton and Manchester.

The problem prompted worried commuters to raise concerns about health and safety.
