A SUSPECTED arson attack on a post box in Bolton was described as 'reckless' by one firefighter who attended the call.

Firefighters were called to the site of a 'smoking' post box in Long Lane this afternoon at around 2pm when a member of the public alerted them to it.

Watch manager Pete Gray, said: "We suspect somebody has put something through the opening and set the contents on fire."

He added: "This type of act is reckless and you can't know how important some of the mail is going to be to its recipients."

There was no damage to the post box he said but did not know how damaged the post would be saying the Royal Mail will have to sort through it.
