POORLY children were given gifts as Muslims prepare to celebrate Eid and mark the end of the holy month Ramadan.

Youngsters at the Royal Bolton Hospital are receiving gifts this week from the Muslim community of Bolton.

Members of Al-Khair Foundation, a UK based Muslim charity ,has been collecting funds to pay for the presents, which have included toys.

Aslam Atcha, of the foundation said: “We want to mark this important moment in the Muslim calendar to show the true meaning of Eid and to share with people less fortunate.

“We want to celebrate Eid but also have thoughts for those children who are recovering from illness or accidents.

“We hope it will bring a bit of extra joy into their lives.”
