A MAN exposed himself to three girls who were swimming at a popular beauty spot.

The 13-year-old girls were at Lower Rivington Reservoir on Wednesday afternoon when they were approached by the man.

They were swimming in the lake near Rivington Lane at around 5pm when the man then exposed himself to them.

The girls ran from the water to get away from the man who fled the scene, running back into the bushes.

The incident was reported to the police and officers attended the scene. A Lancashire Police spokesman said that a search of the area was carried out and enquiries are currently ongoing into the incident.

Police have released a description of the man as they try to identify him.

He is described as white, five foot ten inches tall, medium to heavy build, aged in his late twenties to early thirties.

He was wearing a burgundy beanie style hat with a white logo on it and a dark grey jumper.

A spokesman for United Utilities, which manages the are, said that it was aware of the incident and any information it had would be passed on to the police.

The area is a popular recreational site.

The NSPCC has issued advice on keeping making sure your child is safe when they are out on their own. Parents are advised to ask children where and when they want to go, what do they want to do there, who is going with them, how far they are going, what time they will be back and how can they be reached.

It also advises that parents talk to children about stranger danger and not talking to people that they don’t know.

United Utilities has been campaigning this week to remind people not to swim in any of its reservoirs after a teenager drowned in Rochdale on Monday.

Teenagers were also reported drinking at Higher Rid Reservoir in Lostock earlier this week and they abused rangers when asked to move on.

Anyone with information about the man exposing himself is asked to contact police on 101 and quote crime reference SC1704698.
