STUDENTS are motivated and achievement is high at the borough’s only standalone sixth form college.

Bolton Sixth Form College is continuing to deliver a good education to its students found Ofsted inspectors, who added that the college has improved since the last inspection, in which it was also rated good.

Ofsted inspectors reported: “Senior management team and governors have improved further the quality of provision since the last inspection and have ensured that students continue to receive high-quality education.”

Inspectors praised investment in college facilities to develop students learning inside and outside of the classroom.

“Students are motivated, enjoy their classes and are keen to learn. Attendance is high and very few students are late for classes,” said inspectors. Ofsted found that bosses were working ‘assiduously’ to improve the quality of teaching, learning and assessment.

Inspectors reported: “The senior management team, governors and managers know the college well. They work tirelessly to continuously improve the quality of provision and outcomes for students. Committed and experienced governors challenge leaders well and effectively hold them to account. Governors rigorously scrutinise actions to address underperformance.”

Students were found to develop good employability skills.

Acting Principal Stuart Merrills said:“We are very pleased with the outcome of the Ofsted report and delighted with the continued increase in student achievement rates.

“The report recognises the fact that the quality of teaching, learning and assessment is consistently high across all subjects and as a result students are highly motivated and committed to their learning. This is reflected in the increase in numbers of students who progress to prestigious universities and higher apprenticeships.

“The strength of the college is not only centred around high achievement rates but also our promotion of equality and diversity. “Ofsted commented on the exemplary behaviour of our students and the respect they show towards their peers and staff.

“We are very proud to be the only Sixth Form College in Bolton providing excellent education for young people in the locality and we look forward to achieving outstanding status.”
