Car dealership staff beat the clock by making it from one end of the country to the other before sundown to raise funds for a cancer charity.

Bolton Audi sent two cars and seven drivers to cover the 874 miles between John O’ Groats and Land’s End in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

The team, was led by Phil Ryder, from Horwich, who was delighted when both Audis made it to the Cornish coast 15 hours and 33 minutes after leaving John O’ Groats.

The challenge took place three days after the summer solstice, giving the team around 17 hours 30 minutes of daylight to reach their destination.

Mr Ryder took to social media shortly after arriving at Britain’s most southerly point to announce ‘we’ve only gone and done it’.

The 46-year-old technician’s wife, Jacqueline, bravely battled breast cancer last year.

And Mr Ryder was inspired to take on the test of driving endurance for Macmillan after finding their support invaluable.

Posting on the Chase the Sun Facebook page he said: “What a trip. What an adventure. The two cars have been absolutely amazing, they have been fantastic vehicles to have had the privilege to have to drive the epic distance. The traffic was perfect, we had no hold ups. Thanks to the team you guys made it the adventure it has been.

“We’ve had an amazing weekend, but the important people are Macmillan’s, they are the organisation we have done this for.” To donate visit justgiving.com/fundraising/inchcapechasethesun
