BOLTON'S new £48 million transport interchange will be completed by early September, it has been revealed.
Cllr David Chadwick, the council's cabinet member for transport, said tonight that the new interchange would be fully operational by September 3.
Previously, transport bosses had said that the town centre site, at the corner of Great Moor Street and Newport Street, could be up and running by early summer.
Cllr Chadwick revealed the new completion date during a debate on town centre roads at tonight's council meeting.
Conservative councillor John Walsh's motion calling on the council to assess how the junction of Trinity Street and Bradshawgate - which he described as "an accident waiting to happen" - could be reconfigured was approved unanimously.
Cllr Bob Allen said that the council had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make changes to the 'horrendous' junction.
Cllr Chadwick warned that the council cannot proceed with multiple high cost road schemes in the current financial climate, but he was happy to explore the possibilities for the junction.
The creation of a new Westhoughton Bypass has been described as the council's 'number one priority'.
