A BIRD sanctuary is now looking for a new home after it had to partially close because of complaints from a neighbour.

Every Feather Bird Rescue in Newbrook Road, Over Hulton is currently only taking in emergency cases after the issues with a resident living nearby.

And as a result, the charity now wants to find a piece of land, the size of a small field, to run the sanctuary, as it is currently based in the owners' home.

Stephanie Williams and her sister Samantha founded Every Feather Bird Rescue, at their house in Newbrook Road, Over Hulton after finding an injured pigeon five years ago.

Stephanie said: "The situation has made my sister quite ill so we have had to temporarily close.

"And now we are looking for land so we can relocate. We had been in talks with a number of developers building in the area but we haven't been getting anywhere.

"It wouldn't be anything huge. It would probably be the size of a small field but we do get a lot of different kids of birds.

"There is a lot of wildlife living nearby so if we had a small field we would be able to release the birds into the wild."

The rescue centre was initially set up as a charitable organisation to look after pigeons, but after they were deluged with calls, the sisters decided to expand their services to take in any type of bird.

They set up three aviaries in their house and garden and also use a neighbour’s shed. Last year they cared for 424 birds.

They pair also spend £300 a month of their own money on medicine, equipment and bird food among other supplies.

But now they have had to release the birds they had managed to return to health and take the injured animals to Greenmount Wild Bird Hospital in Tottington.

Every Feather has set up a fundraising page and is aiming to raise £10,000 to go towards possibly purchasing land.
