BOXER Amir Khan has offered to pay for the funeral of three children and their mother after they were killed in a house fire.

In a tweet, the Bolton sportsman said he would be willing to fund the services with the Amir Khan Foundation.

Aneesa Umerji, aged 40 and her children Hammad, aged 12, Yusuf, aged 10 and Khadija, aged five, died after the blaze in Rosamond Street, Daubhill, at 9am on Saturday, July 8.

The tweet from Mr Khan read: “@AKFoundation and I are willing to pay for the funerals and show support to our own Bolton community.”

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service believes the fire was caused by a halogen heater in the front living room of the property.

The father escaped from the first floor and was trying to break through the front of the house to save his family.

He is currently recovering at Royal Bolton Hospital.

The Bolton Council of Mosques is due to reveal the dates of the funerals and confirmed the burial would take place at New Overdale Crematorium.

A spokesman for the group said Mr Khan's offer would not be accepted by the family, as they were not accepting donations, but added it was a 'nice thought'.

This came after a Just Giving page was set up to raise money without permission and the family requested that it was taken down.
