A MAN has been arrested in connection with the attempted abduction of a teenage girl.

Police were called to Kennedy Drive, Bury, at around 6.30pm on Tuesday, July 17 to a report that a man had attempted to abduct a 13-year-old girl.

She was walking along the pavement when the man in the car stopped, called her over and demanded she got into the vehicle.

The girl refused and ran away safely from the scene.

Officers launched an investigation and believe the car, a white Nissan Micra, may have remained in the area sometime after the incident.

A 51-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted kidnapping and has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Detective Inspector John Stainton of GMP’s Bury Borough, said: “In what must have been absolutely terrifying circumstances, the teenager thought quickly and ran away from the scene to raise the alarm.

“While we have arrested a man, we are yet to gather the full circumstances of the incident and need people who were in the area at the time to contact us with any information they may have.

“We believe this is an isolated incident but, as always, if anyone has any concerns or has seen anything suspicious, please contact us as soon as possible. No concern is too small.”
