A NEW pub car park could alleviate a school’s traffic problems.

Plans have been submitted for a parking area for 49 cars opposite the Cross Guns Inn in Egerton, which developers say will help parents at the nearby Egerton CP School.

The pub is currently undergoing refurbishment works.

A statement submitted with the plans said: "The client vision for the establishment is to provide high quality food and drink, in a safe, comfortable and friendly atmosphere.

"The experience of the Inn will, in the majority of cases, start from parking in a safe, easily accessible car park. "The client not only sees this as an opportunity for the Inn, but also the local community; it is envisaged that the car park can be utilised by the local residents when picking/ dropping off children at the local primary school. "This will help alleviate traffic issues and improve safety when children are going to and from school.

"Egerton Community Primary School have communicated their support for the proposed car park; they state with 220 children enrolled causes a significant increase in the traffic flow within the village and with extremely limited parking available in the streets surrounding the school. This in turn, causes disruption and a lack of safe pavement for children to walk to/ from school.

"The Head Teacher also states, vehicles often are slowing down or speeding up as they enter/ leave the 50mph zone beyond the village. Therefore making this section of road highly dangerous for families to cross.

"In addition, the school often use local amenities, such as the Egerton cricket pitch, however with a lack of safe crossing points, of which is included as part of the proposal, they find this difficult and dangerous particularly with a large group of children."
