A TEAM of family and friends have shown fighting spirit to mark two successful years running a unique venture.

Boxing gym and community centre Premier was opened in Tonge Moor in 2015 and has been going from strength to strength.

On Wednesday the hub for both young and old alike opened its doors to the public, including a special guest visitor boxer Amir Khan.

The former Bolton World Champion got back in the ring to pose for pictures with members of the community and gym members.

He said: "It is brilliant to come down and support a venture like this.

"The boxing gym opened it has helped get kids off the street and has given them focus, discipline and try something different.

"In this area it makes a big difference . I'm from Bolton, this is where my roots are and I started out in places like this."

The club was set up by Sofia Khan, her brothers, cousins and friends.

She said: “We set it up originally because there was nothing for the kids around here.

“This place was completely run down and everyone pulled together and worked day and night. It looks great now.

“We are 100 per cent happy with how it is going and have been looking forward to the open day."

Premier, in Bury Old Road, runs gym classes alongside boxing lessons and money raised goes back into maintaining and improving the centre.
