A MAN was stabbed leaving a trail of blood down a street as children were coming out of school.

Police were called to Moorside Avenue, Farnworth, close to St James CE Primary School at around 3.15pm today (June 20) to reports that a man had been stabbed.

At the scene they found a 38-year-old man, who was then taken to hospital with stab wounds.

His injuries were described last night as serious but not life-threatening.

A trail of blood could be seen going down the street to a property, where it is believed the man fled to and was the focus of some of the police investigation.

A cordon was put in place for around two hours while crime scene investigation work was carried out.

Officers were going door-to-door talking to residents in the afternoon.

One resident said that they arrived home at around 3.15pm and the police had not yet arrived but did so soon after.

She said: “He has run from up the street. He has started up the street and then has run down here. He had injuries to his arm and his stomach.

“The worry is that it was when the kids are coming out of school.”

A number of police cars and officers were at the scene and small crowds gathered around the cordon to see what was going on.

People were allowed to access their properties while police carried out their work.
