HUNDREDS of people turned out for a day of sporting fun.
Bolton Hindu Forum’s annual sports mela once again proved to be a huge success today, as families took advantage of the warm weather and put their athletic abilities to the test.
The event, which was held at Bolton St Catherine’s Academy, included competitions in football, netball, rounders, track events, badminton and tug of war.
Participants also had the chance to try their hand at a number of traditional Indian indoor and outdoor games, including kho — which is one of the most popular tag games in South Asia.
In the game, one team of the tow teams sits or kneels in the middle of the court, in a row, with adjacent members facing opposite directions.
The team that takes the shortest time to tag all their opponents wins.
At the close of the event, the winners of each event were presented with medals and trophies at an awards ceremony.
The Hindu Forum tweeted: “Big thank you to the staff at Bolton St Catherine’s Academy for working tirelessly at helping us out at #SportsMela2017”
Greater Sport, a charity which promotes sporting participation across the region, said it was ‘great to see so much Sunday activity’.
In the last year, the Hindu Forum has introduced a number of regular sporting activities for the Bolton community.
