BARRIERS may be the solution to help make safe a road dubbed dangerous by Horwich residents.

Town councillors have promised to address the issues raised by residents living near Green Lane after a boy, aged eight, was hit by a car last week.

The incident in back Darley Street prompted discussions about road safety in the area.

The matter was not raised at the Town Council on Thursday night but Cllr Joyce Kellett said it was too late to add to the agenda and would be for the next meeting.

She said the area needed more security and pervious incidents had been addressed by putting up barriers to prevent people running out into roads.

She added: "We hope to have it on the agenda as soon as possible.

"We did discuss the matter after the meeting. Where the lad came down does need securing.

"Cyclist and people fly through and it needs to stop.

"I remember years ago when i was a youngster a similar incident happened near Moss Bank Way but the person died. They put barriers down in the road after and it never happened again."

The boy was involved in a collision with a car at around 4.20pm on July 17.

Paramedics treated the child, who is believed to have suffered a broken leg and was taken to Royal Bolton Hospital.

In another incident, in December, Paul Broderick, aged 82, was crossing Green Lane, near to the junction with Carr Road, when he was in collision with a car and died in hospital three days later.
