THE sight of an RAF helicopter excited a Bolton youngster so much that he ended up in hospital – but still wrote a thank you letter to the Royal Air Force.

The hand-written letter from seven-year-old Jake Baury has been shared on Twitter along with a reply from a commanding officer Phil Robinson OBE.

In the correspondence the Turton and Edgworth School pupil tells of how he was so excited to see a Chinook flying over his school that he fell over and ‘spilt open’ his head.

Jake then explains he was taken to A&E for the injury to be ‘glued’.

However, the hospital dash failed to ruin the experience of seeing the American twin-propeller helicopter.

He wrote: “So thanks for flying over my school and I love Chinooks, you made my day.”

The letter is completed with a detailed drawing of the Chinook.

The aircraft is based at RAF Odiham and the base’s commanding officer, Group Captain Robinson, wrote a thank you in return.

He wished Jake a speedy recovery and said the crew flying on the day would send him more some pictures of the Chinooks.

He also invites the youngster to visit the airbase and praised his “fantastic drawing”.

RAF Odiham has shared the exchanged on its Facebook and a tweet showing off the letters has been shared by more than hundred people.
