WE know that our photographs of Bolton town centre are always well received by readers.

We also know just how much Bolton town centre has changed over the years and this photograph of Nelson Square proves that.

The photograph was taken in July 1974 and shows the square when it was filled with shops rather than bars.

Of course at this time the Pack Horse Hotel was on the opposite side (where the photographer would be standing to take this picture).

We can see the rather glamorous men’s wear shop Scholes and Scholes opposite.

This was a shop where you would find clothes of an exclusive nature.

This part of town was vibrant and busy during the 1970s in sharp contrast to the Bradshawgate area of town today.

Do you remember Nelson Square in the 1970s or even before this?
