DIRTY nappies and a bed were dumped at a fly-tipping hotspot.

Residents have spent years complaining about rubbish dumped at Greenland Road, in Farnworth, and are calling on the council to take more severe action.

Nearby resident Peter Brabin said: “Recently the area had been cleaned up and they made a good job of it.

“But on Monday morning a there was a load of fly-tipped rubbish there again — there were dirty nappies, a bed, food waste, all sorts of stuff.

“I keep getting in touch with the council about this and it is about time they pulled their finger out and did something to stop this happening.

“It has been going on for years and I have been trying to get serious action taken there.

“It is an easy problem to resolve — if the road was blocked off, then people would not be able to fly-tip there.

“The council must be spending a huge amount of money continually clearing this site.”

Council officers cleared the area once again on Monday and members of the public are now being urged to help catch those responsible.

A council spokesman said: “We can confirm that the fly-tip has been removed and officers are following several lines of investigation to find those responsible. Should evidence be found we will seek to fine or prosecute the person responsible. We will continue to monitor this area and will take swift action against anyone found dumping their waste at this spot.

“If members of the public have any information about the persons responsible, they should report it online at http://www.bolton.gov.uk/flytipping.”
