THESE two photographs show the same location but in images taken decades apart.

This is Kay Street, not far from Bolton Town Centre.

The top picture was taken in 1954 and just visible in the centre of the old photograph is the spire of the former St James’ Church in Waterloo Street.

On the left is the Kay Street nursery.

The newer picture was taken in 1986 and the road is instantly recognisable as the same one.

However in the newer picture the road is feeding traffic one way down to St Peter’s Way and the town centre.

Originally, Kay Street was part of the old “pack horse” route to Blackburn and that journey would have taken a good deal longer than it does today.

It is interesting to see this scene in these two photographs and today it has changed even more.
