KINGARTH Care Home has been rated as good in its latest Care Quality Commission report.

The residential home, in New Road, Radcliffe provides 24 hour care for up to seven adults under the age of 65, with learning disabilities and associated mental health needs, that might present as behaviours that are challenging to others.

It was rated good in all areas except leadership of services.

The inspection took place as a follow up to an inspection last year which found that the leadership of services required improvement.

Staff were told that they must introduce a quality assurance review to gain feedback from people who use their service, their relatives and health and social care professionals.

The recent inspection found that the care home had introduced an online quality assurance review to give people the opportunity to give their views and opinions about the

service.

However, only two people had responded to the survey, which did not provide enough information for inspectors and plans are now in place to send out paper versions of the survey.

As with previous inspections, Kingarth was rated as ‘good’ for being caring. The home was a winner of a specialist care provider award for the work they had undertaken to support people with learning disabilities and additional needs.

Inspectors, who produced their report following their visit to the home on May 2, also found that people who used the service spoke positively about the support they received from staff.

And they described the atmosphere at the home as calm, relaxed and friendly.

The national watchdog found that people who used the service were encouraged and supported in maintaining links with family and friends and that staff were able to demonstrate they had a good understanding of the care and support people required.

The care home was also found to be effective in providing a thorough assessment of potential residents before agreeing that Kingarth was a suitable place for them to move in to.

The process involves the potential resident, their families and a range of health and social care professionals.
