THE west wing of a Grade One Listed hall will reopen today after a half a million pound restoration.
Bolton Council leader Cllr Cliff Morris will officially open the Devey Wing at Smithills Hall at 2.30pm.
The project has restored the Devey Room, the Ainsworth Room, the entrance hall and the toilets.
The wing was designed by Victorian architect George Devey as an addition to the Grade One Listed building, which was constructed in the 14th century.
It was created mainly for living accommodation and included a study, library and servants' quarters.
The rooms have been adapted to modern use, with original features partitioned off and contemporary light fittings and heating installed.
It is currently used as a learning studio for family craft activities and educational visits.
As part of the work, the original flooring, oak panelling and fireplace have been exposed and sympathetically restored.
The council hopes the rooms will be used 'creatively' for wedding ceremonies, meetings, conferences and seminars.
