LOSTOCK AC trio Cath Schofield, Gwen Franklin and Vikki Goodyear dominated their age group at the Howgills Triathlon.

Starting at Sedbergh School, with a 400m swim followed by an undulating 30k bike around the Howgills and then finishing with a 8.3 k run straight up and down Winder Fell, Schofield was the first Lostocker home in a time of 2hrs 17mins 11secs – the ninth placed woman and third in the VF50 age group.

Goodyear finished fourth in the VF50 age group and was the 20th placed woman overall in a time of 2:37:33, while Franklin was fifth in the VF50 age group and 23rd placed woman with her time of 2:41:17.

On the same day that Lostock's women were putting in such strong performances in the Howgills, veteran fell runner Mark Checkley was racing in the Long Tour of Bradwell ultramarathon in the Peak District.

Starting and finishing in Bradwell, with a distance of 33 miles and over 6,000 feet of climbing, the race takes in some of the toughest and most inhospitable parts of the dark and white peak, including Bradwell Moor, Kinder Scout, Stanage Edge and the Abney Valley.

Putting in a determined performance, Checkley finished in a time of 9:16:42 and 21st in his age group.
