UPDATE
IN the August 22 edition of The Bolton News, we featured a photograph of the Adlington cricket team taken in June 1995. We asked for any names of players on the picture and several readers responded. Darryl Hitchen said: "The team is: from left, back, Chris Jones (current umpire in BCL), Mick Flatters (wk and active ACC Cricket and general committee member), Neil Woosey (quick bowler who played a few times for the seconds last year), Steve Killey, Neil Doherty, Ian Curme; front, Tony Leyland (former opening batsman and brother of Mick Leyland), Eddie Haddon (captain and club legend as has played for Adlington for all his cricket career – still successfully playing for the second team.), Stewart Plowes (has played for both the first and second teams this season), Phil Shovelton (former opening/middle-order batsman), Paul Killey (pro, very successful and awkward bowler due to his height plus attacking middle-order batsman who is retired and now a proud grandad). Did not win the league in this year as Adlington were in a transitional period in the Bolton and District Cricket Association before returning to be league champions three years later."
Chairman of Adlington CC, Nick Chamberlain named the same team and emailed: "The picture of the Adlington cricket team featured would appear to be before a game played at home against Standish on Saturday, June 10, 1995. Adlington won by 46 runs, scoring 177-9 and bowling out Standish for 131, Neil Doherty taking 6-51. This was one of only four wins for that season, Adlington finishing next to bottom of the Bolton and District Cricket Association." On Twitter, Jon Kerrigan said: "That's the mighty Paul Killey", while Craig Cooke commented: "My fellow Breighmet lad Chris Jones top left." Ian Curme named several of his former team-mates while Richard Sutcliffe said: "Looked a good team – some great characters."
