A DECISION is due today on whether 21 new homes can be built at a former council depot.

Bolton at Home wants to develop the site of the old depot in Park Road, Westhoughton.

Planning committee members have been advised to approve the plans, but a number of objections have been raised.

The council has received seven letters of objection from neighbours, who are worried about parking in the area.

Cllr Zoe Kirk-Robinson has also raised concerns about the impact on local wildlife.

This afternoon’s town hall meeting will also consider plans for 12 new homes near Blackrod railway station.

Two previous attempts to develop the site have been rejected on the grounds that they would be ‘ incompatible with the existing neighbouring industrial and commercial land’. However, this application is recommended for approval.

Planning officers say that, while the location is ‘not ideal’ for housing, the applicant has indicated the measures would be put in place to lessen noise and odour disturbances.
