WANDERERS Under-18s bounced back from their midweek Lancashire FA Youth Cup exit at Wigan with a creditable goalless draw at Crystal Palace on Saturday.

After an impressive 6-1 hammering of Ipswich Town seven days earlier in the U18 Professional Development League North Division, Wanderers headed to the capital looking to erase the memory of their cup defeat.

Nicky Spooner's side started looking to hit the Eagles on the counter-attack and went close when Dennis Politic shot wide from close range after a good pass from Luca Navarro.

Chances were few and far between in the second half and both sides had to settle for a share of the spoils.

Despite the stalemate, coach Spooner was pleased with his side's defending after shipping five goals at Wigan a few days earlier.

He said: "We started the game sitting off palace and looking to break on the counter-attack.

"As the game progressed we started to read the passes and break in numbers.

"In the second half we had more of the ball but couldn't break down the Palace defence.

"The pleasing aspect was keeping a clean sheet with a very young defence."

The young Whites are back in action today when they host QPR in the league at the Eddie Davies Academy, kick off 2pm.
