A NEW pub car park that could help with school traffic problems has been given the green light.

Plans for the 49-space parking area at the Cross Guns in Egerton were approved by Bolton Council this week.

It will also include a new access point, boundary fencing, landscaping and provision of a zebra crossing on A666.

In a statement submitted with the planning application, the developer said it would help traffic problems at Egerton Community Primary School.

They said: "The experience of the Inn will, in the majority of cases, start from parking in a safe, easily accessible car park.

"The client not only sees this as an opportunity for the Inn, but also the local community; it is envisaged that the car park can be utilised by the local residents when picking/dropping off children at the local primary school.

"This will help alleviate traffic issues and improve safety when children are going to and from school.

"Egerton Community Primary School have communicated their support for the proposed car park."

The pub is currently being refurbished.
