WHEN it comes to raising money for charity, Kath Worsley really is a cut above.

The 48-year-old had her long locks cut off as she ‘braved the shave’ to support a cause close to her heart.

So far she has raised in excess of £900 for Bolton Dementia Support after her mother, Jane Worsley, was diagnosed with the condition.

Mrs Worsley, who lives in Smithills, said: “Having my head shaved was my idea — I’ve raised almost £4,000 in the last five years for various charities in Bolton, including two Macmillan Coffee Mornings.

“I crochet for charity so thought it a good idea to hold an event to do both — sell my creations and do something brave that only involved sitting on a chair — it was fun to do, and everyone who attended thoroughly enjoyed the morning.

“I wasn’t at all nervous before, but when Kelly Dagger, mum’s hairdresser, passed me my first plait, I was so emotional I cried.”

Her stylist worked wonders at Kingsbury Court Lodge, in Heaton, where Mrs Worsley’s parents live.

Mrs Worsley said: “I love my new look, and so many people told me how much it really suits me, and also makes me look much younger.

“I have had my hair long for approx15 years now, but never had it this short.

“I’m rather enjoying it being short, and all the compliments too — in fact, I’m surprised how much it’s grown since I had it done which was my mum’s 70th birthday.

“She doesn’t like surprises or parties, so we thought we could coincide the event with her birthday, and it was a great day had by all, with a lovely family meal in the evening.

“The picture of my mum is the one I’ll treasure most as it really captures the love felt that day.

“My target is £1,000, I’ll be thrilled if we meet this target.”

She chose Bolton Dementia Support because of the difference the organisation makes to people’s lives by providing support and activities for those with the condition and their carers.

Mrs Worsley’s locks will go to making wigs for children who have lost their hair through illness.
