FIREFIGHTERS were called to a petrol station in Radcliffe last night after smoke was seen coming from the building.
Fire engines from Bolton and Bury were called out at 11.20pm over fears a fire had started in Turks Road petrol station at the roundabout with Radcliffe Moor Road.
However, the smoke was actually a burglar deterrent triggered by the station’s security alarm.
A spokesperson for crew said the alarm would create an artificial smoke screen that acted as a deterrent if someone broke into the station but, if seen, it would look like the building was on fire.
Police were also called to the scene but believe the alarm was triggered due to a fault.
