LIDL has announced plans for a new store in Stretford.

The supermarket will be placed at the former PC World unit in Chester Road.

The multi-million pound investment, will see Lidl commit to building a sustainable 1,363m² store with plans to create up to 40 new jobs. The store will include state of the art facilities such as: an in-store bakery, longer-style tills with dual packing facilities, customer toilets and ample parking for both cars and bicycles.

Lidl UK’s Regional Head of Property, Nick Harvey, commented: “We are extremely excited about the prospect of opening a Lidl in Stretford and serving our fresh, quality and incredibly good value produce which shoppers across the country have come to love. We look forward to welcoming anyone along to the public consultation day and showcasing our plans whilst answering any questions.”

The public are invited to a public consolation day to outline the plans. It will take place at Stretford Sports Villageon on September 26 between 1pm and 6pm. In addition to Lidl’s dedicated property team, consultants from Rapleys will be on hand to outline the supermarkets plans for a new store and answer any questions from the local community.

Mr Harvey said: “The new store symbolises our desire to significantly increase Lidl’s presence within the Greater Manchester area to meet customer demand, while the conversion of a former vacant unit illustrates the flexibility in our approach to finding new sites. We will be taking a 20 year lease on the unit, having finalised legal proceedings with the landlord of the property, Standard Life Investments.”

The planned store in Stretford will add to Lidl’s existing store portfolio of 670, and will form part of the company’s growth plans which hope to see it open 50 to 60 stores a year.
