NORTHERN Rail staff will strike on two days in October as part of the ongoing dispute over guards on trains.

The RMT union has confirmed that strikes will take place on Tuesday, October 3 and Thursday, October 5.

Northern and RMT are currently engaged in a long-running row over plans to only have one member of staff on services.

RMT said it was 'angry and frustrated' that the company has blocked any chance of making progress in talks.

Richard Allan, Northern's deputy managing director, said that the company is disappointed the action has been called.

On previous strike days services have been severely reduced.
