THIS grand view leading up to one of Bolton’s most famous buildings is right here in the town centre.

Here we see Market Street clearly so named because it leads up to the once truly famous Market Hall.

Many of us still recall the attraction of this incredible Victorian building with its many stalls selling everything from a reel of cotton to a Sunday joint.

It was the jewel in the crown of our shopping experience here in Bolton for so many people, especially those who jumped in a coach for a visit here in the 1970s and 80s when many would also take in lunch at Smithills Coaching House too.

Things have changed here as you can see comparing these two pictures which show the same street but in very different decades.

We do not have a date for the picture at the bottom, which shows individual shops, some with canopies over them but the bigger photograph was taken in 1986.
