TWO major buildings at the entrance to Bolton town centre are to be torn down.

Bolton Council has now served formal notice that it intends to begin demolition work at the old Wayne Walker meat store and the adjacent Motorcycle Mega Store in December.

The two Bradshawgate sites will make way for an ambitious ‘Trinity Gateway’ project that includes a multi-storey car park, a hotel, and offices.

The project is expected to be the first scheme to go ahead in the council’s plans for a £1 billion regeneration of the town centre.

Demolition work is slated to begin on December 4 and finish on January 23.

The new multi-storey is seen as a vital provision to support the new £48 million transport interchange that opened earlier this month and provide an alternative to the other NCP car parks in Topp Way and Great Moor Street.

Wayne Walker’s closed suddenly in January.
