A WATER topic created quite a splash with pupils at Cleveland Preparatory School.

The school has taken on WaterAid as its charity for the year and as a special treat headteacher Lesley Parlane brought the seaside to the Chorley New Road pupils for a day.

Aquarium specialists Aqualease set up a rock pool aquarium in the hall and more than 100 delighted pupils visited it.

They took turns at holding and looking at creatures such as starfish, hermit and spider crabs and urchins.

“There was great excitement,” said Mrs Parlane.

“They were absolutely fascinated.

“It made a really memorable experience,”

“Even I held a starfish and it was amazing.”

Classes took turns at examining the creatures and were given information about them and how to protect their environment by marine rangers from Aqualease.

“It all fits with our school philosophy of being kind and caring,” said Mrs Parlane.

As thanks for the special treat pupils made donations to WaterAid, which helps to provide clean water and sanitation in poorer countries, and more than £200 was raised.
