YOUNG people looking to the future are invited to a Careers and Higher Education Fair to meet representatives from the country’s top universities and leading employers.

There will also be seminars during the evening, with topics including applying to medical and dental school, Cambridge and Oxford explained — covering the application, the collegiate system, courses, student life and finance; degree and higher level apprenticeship opportunities, improving employability skills, legal apprenticeships in how to qualify as a solicitor in six years; student finance and studying abroad.

A spokesman for Bolton School said: “This is an event hosted by Bolton School for all students. The event will cover a broad range of career areas from architecture to modern apprenticeships.

“Those who would find the event most useful are students from Year Nine and above, up to undergraduate level and their parents.”

He added that the event would provide ‘information, advice and guidance.

The spokesman said: “Year Nine might like to explore a range of careers and education pathways before making their option choices. Here is a chance to talk to experts to check if there are any particular GCSEs needed for a particular route. Years 10 and 11 might also want to consider the next stage and options at 16-plus. Would a modern apprenticeship work or to investigate a particular career or university choice. Year 12 and above would find this a fantastic opportunity to explore life beyond school or college.”

He said there may even be a chance to ‘negotiate some work experience’

Companies represented include Royal Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, Knight Law Solicitors, Ribble Vets Ltd, John Holt Architects, Civil Service, police fire and the army.
