FURIOUS residents have voiced their anger about fly-tipping after a dead rat was spotted in the street.

Bin bags, tins containing food and even shoes have been spotted at the back of Blackburn Road, in Astley Bridge, where there are several takeaways.

Pete Hill, of Eden Street, said he has made several complaints about fly-tipping in other streets in the area.

He said: “I’m not sure why the council can’t crack down on things like this. This rubbish is from a commercial enterprise selling food to the public — I bet their customers don’t know. I even saw a dead rat in this back street last week. What is the council doing to educate these people?

A council spokesman said: “Flytipping is antisocial and shows a complete disregard for local people. We encourage all residents to report flytips to the council and any other information that will help us identify the culprits. We will also be speaking to the business owner and advising them to secure their commercial waste bin properly to stop others using it in future.”
