SPOOKTACULAR pumpkins on sale at Bolton Market are selling fast as the town gets into the spirit of Halloween.

Frightfully huge pumpkins are on sale at Charlie’s Cheese and Salad Stall as people get ready to celebrate the festival with a monster Jack O’ Lantern to ward off any unfriendly spooks on October 31.

Manager Charlie Rae, aged 34, said: “We have always stocked big pumpkins because we go straight to the grower.

“We do have a following with customers coming back every year. If they want a big pumpkin they come direct to us.

“We do also go to the wholesaler to get a mixed bag of sizes.

“We had one pumpkin which weighed around 20 kilos.”

Her customers include a florist’s shop, which transforms them into a seasonal arrangement, an artist who transforms them into eye-catching creations, and even a photographer.

Charlie will be taking one of the pumpkins home for her children Evelyn, aged three and Vincent, aged six, while she will make her own pumpkin muffins with her husband, Glen a chef.

She said: “I do like Halloween because of the children.”

Dad, Stephen Latham, aged 70, who owns the stall as well as with Bannisters in Bolton Market, which also sells monster-sized pumpkins, added: “We have another 200 pumpkins coming in.

“They are popular. You get children asking their dad if they can have one.”
