A FIREWORKS spectacular transported thousands of people to a galaxy far far away.

Large crowds gathered at Bradshaw Cricket Club, in Rigby Lane, for its annual event on Saturday night.

Bumper crowds were expected and people were soon streaming in from the surrounding areas to enjoy the show and the rest of the festivities.

It was the 46th annual edition of the event and people from across the North West attended as well as residents from the surrounding area.

It included a new light show alongside the firework display.

The theme for the event was Star Wars and the display featured music from the iconic John William's score.

There was plenty for everyone to enjoy including a fairground and plenty of traditional food and drink.

Organiser, Mike Buckley said: "There was massive difference in crowds. We think there was about 4,000 to 4,5000 people.

"It is a massive fundraiser for the club. We are raising money to run cricket, that is what we do it for.

"It was an absolutely brilliant success. We will try and make it even bigger and better next year and keep going up."

The stunning display lit up the night sky and as well as the gathered crowds was enjoyed by residents for miles around.

Plenty of children were wielding their very own lightsaber as they got involved in the fun and the galactic theme.

Mr Buckley added that the event went off without incident and by 9.30pm it was all quiet again as people headed off home.

Neil Bonnar, Bolton News head of sport, attended the display and said it was a fantastic event and praised the club for the work it does.
