THERE was more trouble over the weekend in an area that has been blighted by anti-social behaviour.

Harwood has faced problems with large groups of youths throughout most of this year, including in areas such as Longsight Park and outside the Morrisons in Lea Gate.

On Saturday night, a number of residents reported trouble outside the supermarket.

Hundreds of people were walking home from the Bradshaw Cricket Club fireworks when they saw a group of youths in the car park.

The group were running around, chasing each other and there were even reports that a brawl broke out.

One eyewitness said: "There was a lot of shouting and screaming. I heard glass being broken as well.

"There was teenagers chasing each other around the car park."

One of the entrances to Morrisons has been closed while the other was manned by a security guard, who was letting people into the shop.

It is believed that around 10 teenagers made up the group and some were seen smashing bottles on the floor.

The eyewitness continued: "I went in the shop for around ten minutes and I asked the security guard if it had calmed down and he told me it had. The group had gone then. I felt very threatened when I was there and I know I was not the only one."

People saw the group outside the supermarket at around 9pm and they were seen running away from the area soon after.

A number of teenagers attended the fireworks at the cricket club but organisers said there was no trouble

It is not the first time the area has faced problems with anti-social behaviour.

Earlier this year police in Harwood urged parents to make sure they knew where their children were as a result of anti-social behaviour.

Officers were concerned about large groups of teenagers outside Morrisons and also in the park.

Residents near Longsight Park have been blighted by loud noises late at night and also fires being started.

The problem came to a head in April when around 100 youths gathered at the derelict Bolton Open Golf Course club house.

Morrisons Harwood was contacted for a comment.
