LOSTOCK AC quartet Albert Sunter, Tony Marlow, Josie Greenhalgh and Michele Sunter headed to the beautiful Langdale Valley to participate in the 50th Original Mountain Marathon.
Previously known as the Karrimor International Mountain Marathon, this event has set the international template for mountain endurance and has attracted such noticeable participants as Sir Ranulph Fiennes and fell-running legends Joss Naylor and Nicky Spinks.
Always held on the last weekend of October, teams of two have to navigate rough mountain terrain carrying all their equipment, including food, to survive two days and a night in the wildest parts of Great Britain.
It tests to the limit the fitness, mountain craft and navigational skills of the participants.
Braving 60mph winds and driving rain on day one, Greenhalgh and partner Darren Baker finished 30th overall in the medium score race, one place ahead of Albert Sunter and Marlow, while Michelle Sunter, in her first Original Mountain Marathon with partner Mark Sammon, finished 74th overall out of 217 medium score finishers.
Closer to home, Matt Withers, Alan Mather and Joanne Parncutt celebrated Haigh Hall parkrun's second anniversary with times of 22mins 38secs, 26:38 and 31:06 respectively, while Andy Laycock posted an equally strong time of 23:25 at Bolton parkrun.
