A  woman was seriously injured in a collision with a car.

Police were called to Worsley Road North, Walkden, after the crash at around 3.30pm today.

A female pedestrian, believed to be in her thirties, was involved in a collision with a Skoda and has been taken to hospital for treatment for serious injuries.

The road was closed while police dealt with the incident but it was reopened by around 6.30pm today.

Officers wereurging people to avoid the area because the road was closed and traffic was very slow in the area.

The accident was between Cecil Street and Hill Top Road between Walkden town centre and Farnworth.

Police in the area said that the area around the Ellesmere Centre, Whittle Street, Walkden Road, High Street and Worsley Road North
have was closed off.

People are being asked to be patient and avoid travelling in the area for the time being due to congestion and long queues.
